Gynecomasty

Breast problems are not only faced by women but also by men. An increase in breast size creates serious aesthetic problems for men.

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the increase in the size of the male breast to such an extent that it resembles a female breast. It usually occurs in both breasts but can occur more often in one breast.

What causes gynecomastia?

There are many reasons for why gynecomastia occurs. The most common causes are obesity, hormonal disorders, and taking drugs or hormones (e.g. bodybuilders). However, in many cases there is no obvious cause (idiopathic gynecomastia).

How is it treated?

The treatment of gynecomastia is surgical. Through small holes of 3-4 millimeters, the excess fat and the enlarged mass gland are removed.

Are there incisions?

Today, with newer techniques, the scars are very small, located in relatively inconspicuous places, so they are practically invisible.

What happens to the excess skin? Is there sagging?

No. The skin on the male chest has a great tendency to contract and tighten itself. The result is a firm and masculine chest.

What kind of anesthesia is required?

Depending on the problem, anesthesia can be local, anesthetic or general.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure lasts 1-1.5 hours.

Is a hospital stay required?

No. Three hours after surgery the patient can go home, wearing a special compression vest for four weeks.

How long does recovery take?

After surgery there is minimal pain and slight swelling in the area. A day’s rest is recommended, after which the patient can return to work normally. Avoiding vigorous physical activity for three weeks is also recommended.

Is the result permanent?

Yes. Even if the patient gains significant weight post-procedure, their breasts will grow, but in symmetry with the rest of their body.
